A rare Italian 1918 Mariano Fortuny border of woven cotton twill. Deep forest green Moorish design on a silver ground with motifs of foliage, bows and flowers within interconnecting strap work frames. The stamp on this border "Societa Anonima Fortuny" signifying it was from a joint-stock company of 1919 where he was in partnership with Giancarlo Stucky. This border can be found in the Museum of Capodimonte in the Titian room, formerly the National Museum of Naples. You can also see this border depicted in a picture in Fortuny’s book Mariano Fortuny: His Life and Work on page 152, upper left picture. More than likely inspired by a 17th century design as so many of Fortuny designs.

You get subtle color saturation throughout Fortuny pieces due to the fact these fabrics were hand printed and would have had different pressure applied to the stamp. These highs and lows of color are what Fortuny is most known for in his designs.

Condition: Light fade as to be expected of a hand stenciled antique piece
