An exquisite 17th century Italian hanging of raspberry/red silk damask brocaded with gold metal threads embellished with Baroque flourishes, tulips and birds. The hanging is made up from several pieces, edged with a gold metal braid and backed with Dupioni silk.

This piece was de accession out of the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh to further develop collections with a global perspective.

Condition: A 10” length of gold braid at the top has been replaced but doesn’t match the rest of the braid. Gold metal threads look more silver in appearance in person and have minor rub due to age all typical of a silk textile over 300 years old.
